BATAVIA — On October 20, Clermont County officials signaled the start of construction on the joint HealthSource of Ohio and UC Health medical facility in Batavia. Dozens of residents and local stakeholders attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The first phase of the project will continue over the coming year.

HealthSource of Ohio and UC Health announced a new partnership earlier this month to construct a joint facility that will expand access to primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, and specialty services in Clermont County.

The location of the two-story building is at 1536 Old State Rte 74 in Batavia. Its footprint covers nearly 80,000 square feet of land just off State Route 32.

Healthcare officials believe the new infrastructure will improve rural health outcomes in Southwest Ohio, where counties experience higher average disease and mortality rates than more northern regions of the state.

“This is an exciting opportunity for two organizations with a shared mission to explore how we can better serve the people and communities of Ohio,” said Dr. Jody Prather, President and CEO of HealthSource of Ohio. “Together, we could make it easier for people and families to get the primary care and behavioral health services they need, especially in rural communities.”

President of the Clermont Chamber of Commerce, Joy Lytle, praised the construction initiative, “We were proud to celebrate this important milestone alongside these valued partners as they build a healthier future for Clermont County. Projects like this are a great example of the impact local partnerships can have on our community.”

Other speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony included:

  • Cory D. Shaw, President and Chief Executive Officer of UC Health

  • Rex Parsons, Board of Trustees Chair, Batavia Township

  • David Painter, Clermont County Commissioner

  • Randy Perry and Danielle Wessel, Township Trustees

In a recent interview with Good Day Clermont!, Prather said HealthSource expects the project to finish by late spring or early summer 2028. However, it can be difficult to predict an exact date this early in construction, especially with ongoing supply chain shortages.

“We want to go slow because we want to be very intentional about making sure it's the right kind of service; it's additive and first-class,” he said about the direction of the construction and partnership.

Some of the services patients can expect will include OBGYN and maternal care. Historically, Clermont families had limited access to these healthcare options.

In a letter to patients, HealthSource of Ohio said, “This more integrated partnership will allow us to expand our current collaboration with UC Health clinicians for higher-level specialty services such as maternal-fetal medicine, and to further coordinate advanced care when needed—always with the goal of improving outcomes for women in our communities.”

The new facility may also provide convenient access for patients from neighboring counties because of its location off the newly renovated State Route 32. The building will stand as a testament to Clermont’s commitment to a healthier, more vibrant community.
